Stop, Collaborate and Listen

To be dynamic means to constantly change or to adapt. To be collaborative means to come together, to embrace teamwork and sharing. So how do the two come together?

What is Dynamic Collaboration?

Dynamic collaboration, in essence, is the most ideal kind of working relationship. It brings together a group of people, employees, leaders, managers, whomever, to efficiently generate results and ideas through information sharing and knowledge sharing. I believe that dynamic collaboration is largely based on communication and connectivity, as well as sustainability through change and challenge.

It’s not only who collaborates, but how. With social media making significant waves in the workplace, we see a dramatic shift towards connecting through technology. There is Google Drive, cellphones, emails, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn – the list goes on and on. With all of these platforms and options available, teams are better able to share information and knowledge.

A real life example of a company that embraces collaboration in their culture is Apple – one of the world’s most exciting and innovative organizations. Apple CEO, Tim Cook, speaks to the competencies he looks for from his teams in this short interview video. Tim addresses what Apple hopes their employees and collaborators bring to the company. He states, “you look for wicked smart people. You look for people who appreciate different points of view. You look for people that care enough that they have an idea at 11 at night and they want to call and talk to you about it because they are so excited about it and they want to push the idea further and that they believe that somebody can help them push the idea another step instead of them doing everything themselves.”

My Experience with Dynamic SolutionsDynamic Solutions

My personal example of dynamic collaboration is with my Seneca team, Dynamic Solutions – quite the name, wouldn’t you agree!? Dynamic Solutions consisted of, in order from left to right, Rachael Iles Lennex Szeto, myself and Alex Coleman and we competed in the Great Canadian HR Business Student Conference and Case Study Competition sponsored by Earning through Learning.  Dynamic Solutions was thrown into different scenarios and responsible for various business analyses. Without my team, I know for a fact that there would be no way of competing as whole-heartedly as I did. Dynamic Solutions brought together four very different and unique students and together, we were able to highlight our strengths and collaborate our solutions. Because of our versatility, we won first place and People’s Choice Award. I couldn’t have asked for a better team!
